ALEX PARDEE PRESENTS, BRIGHTMARES:
Over the past year, artist Alex Pardee has traveled around the United States, digging into the most elusive archives in baseball’s history, uncovering some of the most fascinating, (and sometimes even horrific), stories from the sport. In various cities, he found actual accounts of werewolves playing baseball, aliens invading the field, masked maniacs, infections that were covered up, and there was even an incident where a baseball player got possessed by a mascot costume. Alex was able to shed light on some of these forgotten stories through Project 70, but he could only do so much with one outlet.
Now, through VARIANTZ, these stories continue, shedding even MORE light on these bizarre
tales, and
showcasing some of the DARKER parts of the stories. Highlighting the cities that hosted these
incidents, and
featuring a portrait of these bright-nightmares, each card also contains the uncovered story
itself, and
will surely be a completely unique addition to your trading card collection.

again my
friends...
Despite public reports, the Shotime Brothers weren’t actually the first conjoined siblings to excel in professional baseball…
In the summer of 1951, while serving time in prison for a crime she didn’t commit, Hilda Bennet gave birth to triplets. Or at
least, she
was
TOLD she
was going to give birth to triplets. But when little Stanley,
Hank and
Calvin arrived, they were fused together like a wad of wet playdough, a pile of eyes and lips with some semblance of arms and legs. Because their mother was imprisoned, the triplets were taken from her and passed along to an experimental hospital in Iowa. After 26 unconventional surgeries, the 3 brothers were, for lack of a better word, successfully rebuilt. Stanley,
Hank and
Calvin would go on to share one functioning
body, and
3 brains. As they matured, Stanley and Hank were outgoing, kind-hearted, and even silly, but Calvin, well…Calvin had a taste for blood. Stanley and Hank were usually able to keep Calvin under control, at least enough for them to not only to lead their high school baseball team to the championships, but the Triple Threat (their appropriate nickname) got immediately drafted into the Minor Leagues in 1970.
Unfortunately, their professional baseball career didn’t last long. In their 3rd game, Stanley and Hank simply couldn’t control their brother, and Calvin took life-threatening bites out of his teammates that night. The Triple Threat was arrested and spent the remainder of their lives in the same prison where they were born.
And so I teamed up with trading card company VARIANTZ to honor these secretive triplets with a new limited edition collectible companion card to go along with my P70 OHTANI card, which was previously thought to be the only conjoined twins featured on an official baseball card.
