Description
MITCHELL Pan & Tilt Friction HeadModel FC
Built by the MITCHELL Camera Company
SERIAL NUMBER: 101
By August of 1920, George Mitchell had invented the Friction Head, and filed for patent by 1921.
Taking time to perfect it, the well known Friction Pan & Tilt Head was introduced in 1928.
The Friction Head very quickly became the standard professional motion picture camera pan & tilt tripod head,
replacing earlier hand-cranked types
.
This unit was purchased from Francis Coppola's San Francisco
based
ZOETROPE
Studios
.
The Pan & Tilt Head offered here is
complete
and is in
excellent
operating condition.
All mechanical functions work perfectly.
This sale includes:
Pan/Tilt head
Bottom Tripod Locking Nut
Adjustable Length Pan Handle
PLEASE NOTE:
There is a small piece of metal missing on the tripod handle attachment assembly.
(SEE PHOTO #5)
This does not cause any problems with the operation of the Pan/Tilt handle.
It still fits snugly into the assembly.
The rubber Mitchell cap on the Pan/Tilt handle still works, but shows signs of wear.
(SEE LAST PHOTO)
There is a Duel Bubble leveling assembly of which only one bubble
is operational.
This can be easily replaced if desired.
However, one bubble is quite adequate level the head.
This is a rare piece of Hollywood History
