Description
Up for sale is a lot oftwo
metal souvenir buildings -- both are replica models of the Second Ward Savings Bank in Milwaukee, WI.
The larger model is
the coin bank version cast by A. C. Rehberger in the 1920s and made of lead.
Its trap is missing, replaced by a brown felt protective pad.
Note that it is NOT the later version recast &
reissued by the Souvenir Building Collectors' Society in the 90s.
It is the original 1920s casting.
The smaller model was cast solely as a paperweight and is an extremely hard variety of this building to find.
Both buildings are in good to very good condition, with the bank version showing some surface wear.
The larger bank version measures 3 1/4" X 4 1/4" X 2 1/4" high, the smaller paperweight version
measures: 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" and weighs approx. 3/4 lb.
The larger bank reads around the base: "Safe Deposit Vaults", "Investments", "Savings"; on the top it reads, "Put your money in the Second ward Savings Bank, The Bank of Personal Service in Milwaukee."
The top of the paperweight differs from the bank variety in that it reads simply: Second Ward Savings Bank Milwaukee.
Around its base: "The Bank of Personal Service / Commercial / Investments / Savings".
